Chew on This: Foods That Boost Brain Power

Although the brain is only about 3% of your body mass, it burns 30% of your energy. No wonder a mind-bending day can leave you physically exhausted!

We asked brainiac Terry Small to recommend foods that help to boost brain power. He says your best bet is to eat a half-dozen walnuts or almonds every day. Here are more smart tips:

  • Next to nuts, the best brain foods are dark raisins, blueberries, blackberries, clove garlic, kelp, cranberries, strawberries, raw spinach, raspberries, brussel sprouts, plums, alfalfa sprouts, steamed spinach, broccoli, beets, avocados, oranges, red grapes, and red peppers.
  • Eating just one prune a day can reduce the risk of Alzheimer's by 93%.
  • The #1 brain beverage is tea. Green or black is best.
  • Be mindful of mindless munching; you make 200 to 250 food-related decisions each day.

While exercise prepares your body to get through the day, food prepares your mind. Are you ready for genius or junk?
