My Notes: Some key points I picked up at Terry's session.

The brain is 80% water and most of us are dehydrated. One of the reasons we don't drink enough is that as you age your sense of thirst diminishes. So when we are thirsty, we really need water.

How much water we need? Answer, 1 cup for each 25 pound of body mass. Water should be drunk continuously throughout the day, not just when thirsty. In particular drink a big glass as soon as you get up.

First drink of the day should include orange juice or some fruit. The fuel of the Brain is glucose and drinking water with a fruit juice adds energy.

Green Tea or Black tea is the number one drink for the brain. These teas are packed with anti-oxidants.

Free radicals that cause cancer love fat, loose weight and eat a diet rich in anti-oxidants. The top 20 foods that are rich in anti-oxidants and good for the brain are: (from bottom to top)

  • red pepper
  • red grapes
  • orange
  • avocado
  • beets
  • broccoli
  • steamed spinach
  • alfafa sprouts
  • plums
  • raspberries
  • raw spinach
  • strawberries
  • cranberries
  • kale
  • garlic
  • blackberries

Number one - way ahead of number two in anti-oxidants is the PRUNE. To find out more about keeping a healthy brain go to Terry's web site and download past newsletters. They are free.
